Hello all!

My husband is Egyptian, and I am Ukrainian. He received a job offer in Germany and is eligible for a blue card. We are planning to apply together. Can anyone share their experience, please? How long did it take for you? Did you face any issues during the process?

Thank you all!

If your husband has a job offer with a compny willing to take the exra effort and risk of recruiting somone from outside of the EU then this should be your ticket in. Getting a family reunion visa as a spouse is the standard way to accompany him.

If he gets a blue card then they don't even have a German language requirement for you. If he only gets a standard work visa, then you would usually then need to pass a A1 German exam. This is beginner's level and it would be almost foolish for anyone immigrating to Germany not to have at least this level before arrival whether required or not. Otherwise one is totally lost and always dependent on the help of others to negotiate life.

Even if your husband doesn't need German for the job, learning some German will do more to make life fullfilling in the country than anything. And if at all possible, one should continue to improve it by taking courses once settled in. The Volkshochschule is like a community college in the US and they are found throughout Germany. One can take reasonably priced language courses that fit to their schedule; say a daily one for intensive learning if not working or maybe 2 times a week evening one's for one who works.
