My husband and I would like to set up a small store in Quito (spanish known as a 'local'). My husband has residency. Is anyone familiar with the process for how to do this? (paperwork, etc.) Thank you in advance for your advice!

Kindly,

Shelby

Well, you need to set up a RUC number with SRI - for tax purposes, and state your activity as a small retail store, this is free. You need to buy a municipal licence in any of Quito Municipal offices, for example there is one in CC Condado, this is about $200-400 per year. Not sure, but I think you need something from the fire department... step by and ask them. Other then that, you are good to go.
