Mine was from Edenorte for the last month.

Our home has:

Two occupants

LED light bulbs

Trace inverter which covered 4 hours of power outage for the month

Ceiling fans that operate, in total, 16 hours a day

Two water pumps pumping water from the street to two tinactos, one on the ground and the other on the roof of the second story and then keeping pressure in the system.

LED flood lights light the area around the house from dusk to dawn.

One small refrigerator

One Hot Air Fryer that operates maybe 30 minutes a day

One microwave that operates maybe 10 minutes a day

One TV that's on maybe 2 hours a day

One gaming computer that's on 14 hours a day

Last month's total consumption --- 494 kWH

How does this compare to your bills?

Breakout of usage and cost/kWH for different levels of usage

Cargo fijo 31 day RD$ 126.81

200 kWH @ RD$ 5.97

100 kWH @ RD$ 8.51

The big drivers of your bill: air conditioner, electric water heater, Water pumps, fridge, freezer and some appliances.

Mine averages 4,200.  18btu air conditioner every day 8 hours, electric water heater once a day, fridge, freezer, coffee maker every day.  Air fryer several times a week.  2 ceiling fans 24/7.  Tv and other fans as needed.  Internet 24/7.

I am on Edesur.

All of the EDE distributors have the same price structures.  Private companies charge what they want!

Thanks, that is essential information that was not available to us until you put it out there for all of us to see!

Here's what I see when I compare your EDE bill combined with how your house consumes electricity with mine.

Our EDEs charge essentially the same rates. I pay a slightly lower rate than you for the first two levels and a somewhat higher rate for the last.

I'm confused by the fact that I used and paid more than you, even though I do not have any AC or electric water heating.

How do we explain that? Can we assume that our EDE meters are accurate? If so, it seems my water pumps use more electricity than your AC unit and electric water heater.

My read is that the lights, fans, TVs, and refrigerators use so little that we can ignore any differences. One thing that might explain it is that the person who cleans our concrete patio, sidewalks, etc. used a lot of water many times a week. So much water that the water pumps were operating 12+ hours a day refilling the tinactos. BTW, they are no longer allowed to do that! (FWIW, getting them to agree to that change was a battle. Cleanliness OR padding the bill, I don't know)

Could that explain the difference between our bills?

My A/C is high efficiency. I paid a lot more for it than normal as I use it every day.

Water pumps use a lot. I live in an apt so do not pay for water pump or backup electricity. However it rarely goes out where I am.

And 12 hours a day for a water pump to fil tinacos?? BIG  PROBLEM with that!

Thanks!

The info you posted shows all of us that efficient AC units can be used on a daily basis without causing the electric bill to become outrageous!

To me, that is important information,

What model/brand of AC did you buy, and what is their efficiency rating?
