Vehicle loan request

aykutg88

Hi everyone.

I couldn't see any topics about vehicle loan applications before on the forum so I wanted to share our own experience that we had last week. Someone who have made similar requests or who are thinking of making similar requests, please share your experiences here too.

We have been in Belgium for 6 months with my wife. We both started our works in October together in different companies. Our residence cards arrived to us in January. Our residence cards are valid till 2025 june. Both of us have bank accounts at Kbc Bank. For this reason, we requested a 48-month loan of 15.000 euros from Kbc Bank for a second-hand vehicle we wanted to buy, but we received a rejection e-mail. No explanation, just rejection. Unbelievable. For 6 months, our salaries have been paid to this bank every month and our cards are always from this bank. Their rejection made us both sad and angry. It seems that we will try again with a less amount and for shorter term and if rejected again we will request from another bank.

@aykutg88 Since you have a temporary residence permit (A card), its less likely or difficult that any bank will grant you loan of any sort. And also because you just arrived in Belgium. If you had residence+job of 4 or 5 years, story could have been different.

@ABS25 Maybe, but there are someone who is accepted their loan requests by Bnp Paribas. Also they are in Belgium since 1 year.

I have lived for 7 years in Belgium and with a temporary residence card, I am told that I will not get a loan anyway so its not unbelievable to you. And the temporary residence card is the reason of refusal.

They dont care about my 50K EUR in the bank balance nor my high monthly net nor my unlimited work contract and my Belgian master degrees so your 6 months of staying is nothing to them!

Indeed, it depends on banks. AXA, KBC, ING dont care. You can try BNP if you know the person who got approved. But I am sure that it differs from case by case and also, depends on the branch you are talking to. Instead of logging an online application, Choose a physical branch to ask for it directly, which is not in a busy area so the chance will be higher.

@Peterjohn123 Thanks for your advices. Do you mean KBC?

Yes all the banks,

KBC ING or BNP.

My friends told me it highly depends on the branch and the agent who looks at your files.

if it still does not work, you could also contact a Broker who works with all banks and consult your files.

during covid years, it was easier because money was ‘cheap’. 2021 till today

I would not recommend such a loan. In Belgium it is not very common a private person to loan 15k for a car and look suspicious to the big banks such as KBC. If you really need a car quickly better use Cambio or buy a cheap one and once you have saved up over 15k you can buy it cash.  Anyway you can try smaller banks such as Argenta, Beobank etc.

Why would you want a loan if you have €50,000 in the bank?

Hi @aykutg88

I have been in Belgium for about 1 year and I have bought an apartment.

I am not sure if there are different procedures for car loan and home loan.

I am in Flanders region. I heard that KBC rules are different Brussels, if you are living in Brussels.

Mortgage loan is backed by hypothec. Meaning if you do not pay bank can seize the house. But for car is more complex as it is much more risk for banks. Cars do also loose value as they age

My colleauge got a car loan from ING at he the beginning of 2023 to buy a new car. With 3,some percent. And he also has a temporary residence card.

Selam Aykut,

My Turkish friend, who is in his first year with an A card, got a loan of approximately 10,000 from ING Bank.

He was only asked to provide his payslips.

Guys, since the discussion is on loans.

I want to apply for a personal loan of 5K euros, KBC has rejected my application since I have A card with an Unlimited work contract.

Could anyone help me out where they got their personal loan with the A card?

You can try leasing. This means you pay a fixed amount each month, like long-term rental, with everything included : insurance, tax, repairs. You don't own the car, you have to give it back after so many years, and you have a limited number of miles you can drive with it.

You can lease new or second-hand cars. If you don't have the cash to buy the car you want and the banks won't lend you money, it's convenient.
