I am planning on opening an NRE/NRO account with a bank in India, they have requested documents for ID and Address be Attested .

**All the KYC documents should be attested by either of the following:

  • Authorized branch official of your overseas bank
  • Notary public abroad; or
  • Indian Embassy/Consulate General in your overseas country of residence
  • Court Magistrate; or
  • Judge; or
  • Authorised officials of overseas branches of Scheduled Commercial Banks registered in India;
  • Justice of Peace (applicable to applicants residing in New Zealand & Australia only)
  • Apostille Certification

When i check with the embassy they have a 2 month waiting period, is there any other medium where i can get my documents attested (I tried my KBC bank but they declined the request)

I did not have to do this when I opened my NRE/NRO with HDFC bank.

What you can do is to download the document from mijndossier. There you get it on the letterhead of the government.

I am trying to open NRE/NRO account with HDFC bank and they indeed ask for attestation by Authorized Bank / Indian Embassy / Local Public Notary for foreign passport copy and OCI card copy. It is strange that they ask like this because I do not think such procedures are possible in Belgian system. I do not know how to work around this as going to the Indian Embassy option is a nightmare as they take forever and unclear on information. Anyone knows how to do this? Thanks a lot!
