Returning to the UK while awaiting work permit approval

Post new topic

Hi,

My partner and I are moving to work in Germany.  We both have job offers.  My qualifications are German,  my partners need to be recognised (electrician).  We have different options ahead of us.  My new employer wants me to start asap.  If we come over and apply for residency and work permit, is it possible to return to the UK during the time our permits are being processed and (hopefully) approved?

My application will not take that long as I have a German Gesellenbrief.  But it would mean my partner could not work for up to 3 months (I'm sure he'd love that).  We wondered if we could do the applications, return to the UK or travel on holiday for a couple of weeks, then head back to Germany.  I read somewhere that this could result or be seen as a withdrawal of application?  Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks

beppi

As far as my limied knowlege goes, it should not cause any problem to travel abroad during the work permit processing period.

But since it is processed by the town authority where you live (i.e. are registered), you cannot give up your residence ther (and de-register). Thus rental costs will continue to accrue.
