Hello,
We plan to stay in Thailand for 45 days.
In this moment the Thai Immigration Bureau will allow foreigners to stay in Thailand for 30 days. Tourists will be able to apply for a 30 days visa extension.
I know that we have to show the flight back when we arrive to Thailand.
Can we book our flight with a flight back ticket in 45 from the day of arrival?
Thank you for help

The airline might be the only one that will complain at check-in at the airport. Immigration "has the right" to ask for a return or forwarding ticket. Nothing says that they will ask for it.
Not sure what the rule is but the return flight is in reality rarely asked when you arrive.

The official rule is: Tourists without a return ticket or forwarding ticket are not allowed to enter. A tourist is a person that enters on a visa exempt or a tourist visa. You can't apply for a 60 days e-visa without evidence of a paid ticket out of Thailand. And, read slow, you might understand: Immigration has the right to ask for evidence of a ticket out of Thailand when arriving on a visa exempt.
Before the pandemic loads of people were denied entry at Suvarnabhumi airport because of no ticket out of Thailand or not having ฿20,000 in cash.
Simplest fix, buy a refundable ticket to Saigon, or wherever.
I fly to Thailand on one way tickets often. The only people I have ever had to address this with is the airline when checking in.
Immigration can ask, but I have never had to show a ticket to them.
Have fun!
@Stefan Blassss Yes you can

You can apply for a longer stay visa at Thai embassy before leaving to have peace of mind or you can extend here for additional 30 days if you get just 30 days on arrival.
I have been travelling often with one way ticket, cause you can buy a 2 way ticket from Thailand when you already here for example.
Never been asked to show ticket in last 10 years that I live here and never in 43 years that I travel to Thailand.
I was asked in November as return flight was July - 8 months later - my visa was a marriage 1 year but expired April. Had to explain I had to go back to renew my visa !
In end we came back Uk end of March and don't have my 1-year renewed but we going back in 2 weeks time for 43 days. As don't want to apply for another 1-year until next trip and not wanting some hassle with airline at LHR I applied for 2-visa for 60days. £30. took 2 days for the email t come back approved. Just need to print it off and remember to give to immigration on arrival to stamp me for the 60 days. I could have extended at local immigration in Thailand but that's THB1,900 but that's about £45 so this was A) cheaper B) requested in comfort of own home
@Stefan Blassss
I renewed my tickets less than 45 days apart just in case I had a flight issue. I don't know what the consequences are of not leaving Thailand on time.

If you don't leave Thailand when your permission of stay has expired, and you haven't extended the stay at the local immigration office, you're on overstay, which will cost you 500 baht/day at the airport when leaving. Long term overstay means fines,deportation and you're banned.

I am seriously thinking of living in Thailand. I have a girlfriend there. The last time I came I did a visa run roughly every 45 days. I want to stay longer and was considering an O-A Retirement Visa which I believe is either 6 months of 1 year. I was there for 5 months before but may stay longer based upon my relationship. I have found a couple of firms that do the OA Visa but they want about $1000.00 USD for the process of handling the VISA and the Bank Account. Not sure if they help with health insurance.
Since you are a long term traveler to Thailand can you give me advice as to health insurance & banking because I believe you have to have a minimum balance etc.
I am from the USA are you from there? The reason I ask is I want to use my Social Security or say a retirement plan as my source of minimum income.
I am concerned about losing my money in a bangkok bank, can I put the minimum in the bank and not just use it? Do I have to deposit my earnings in this bangkok bank?
What do you do about your mail at home because the USA they only hold the mail for a given time. I am concerned what happens if you have a post office box that this limits the amount of mail you can receive. I am thinking that I have to return to the USA for my medications and medical checkups. Before I bought medications in Thailand and they are cheaper than the USA. I tried to ship my medications from the USA and they got tied up in customs.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Thanks for your response. How many times am I allowed to leave every 45 days? I would not want to be banned. I just want to figure the most cost effective way to stay for a longer term. I was looking at a retirement visa of 6 months or 1 year. Are you familiar with those? Then I would not have to leave as often. I talked with a firm in BK that said they would handle the visa there. They said all I needed was a valid passport. They would handle the visa and the bank account for 30000 baht which seemed to be a large amount. I don' t know if that includes the fees from the Thai Government and the Bank?
Any suggestions to make this process easier, I would appreciate it.

There are no 45 days visa exempts anymore. Without a visa you can only stay 30 days, which is extendable another 30 days at the local immigration office. You can do two border runs per calendar year and get 30 days from each run. Then you can extend each 30 days visa exempt another 30 days at the local immigration office. There are no 6 months long stay visa. The O-A is a one year long stay visa based on retirement and can only be applied for at an embassy or consulate back home. If you want to stay 6 months without a long stay visa, just do the math. Start with a 60 days tourist visa from a Thai Embassy or consulate in the US,extend the stay another 30 days, then two border runs. Extend one of those 30 days with another 30 days at the local immigration office. That's 60+30+60+30=180 days.Regarding using an agent, that's what people do when they don't meet the requirements at immigration, maybe they're not 50 years old or they don't have the required amount of money. There are many threads here about long term visas and bank accounts etc etc. Just check them out.

On your question about mail. I use a digital mail P.O. Box, several companies offer this service. My mail goes to their physical location and they scan it and send to me the pdf. I can then choose what happens to the physical mail, usually throw it away, but forwarding it is an option too. Hope this helps.
