Hello,

I am interested in moving to Thailand from the United States and working remotely.

My biggest questions are about the kind of visa I would need and how health insurance works?

Thanks all I'm Soo happy I found this website, hoping to make lots of friends and learn!

Hello morourke90,

Please note that I have created a new thread with your post for more visibility on the Thailand forum.

You should read the Living in Thailand guide for expats. There is an article about the different Visas for Thailand.

All the best,

Very few foreigners have  been able to obtain the Smart Visa since it was released. Read this:

"The SMART Visa is a new type of visa designed to attract highly skilled manpower and investors to help accelerate the development of the country’s targeted industries. SMART Visa is offered to foreign experts, executives, entrepreneurs and investors who wish to enter into the Kingdom of Thailand."

What Thailand really needs is to produce a true remote worker visa for folks gainfully employed abroad and that's it.

By making so many requirement, the Thai BoI is really missing out on a lot of expat money flowing in from potential remote workers.  It's not like these jobs were from Thai companies in the first place and these folks are stealing from Thai jobs.

The scenario should be: a person gets a remote worker visa, is paid well by original employer abroad and hence not a burden to Thailand, uses salary to pay rent, buy food, stuff in Thailand.  So lots of investments coming in for 1 person. Multiply to many, then it elevates the economy even further.
