Two weeks after Metro service began last month,

all Metro rail service shut down. The mayor has been

holding emergency meetings in an effort

to re-start service.

The system operator shut down the service,

citing infrastructure problems and contractual

failures by the city of Quito.

During the nine days the system served the publlic,

there were break-downs in the ticketing system,

physical problems with escalators at some Metro

stations and other infrastructure problems.

The city considers the complete shutdown of

the system by the operating consortium 'unacceptable.'

Metro service is down until December 2023.

The Quito Metro evidently started operations

before it was really ready.

According to an article e-published at the

BN Americas website since Metro service was

suspended in May, the target for re-starting

the system is now pushed to December 2023.
