I think it is easier for her to stay here if you declare her as your fiance/partner as you are Mauritian. To declare her as your partner I think you have to have lived together 4 years prior to moving here. Might be easier to just marry her.

I am now going though this. If marriage is an option i would suggest to marry in Europe.

My fiance and i thought it would be easier here but if 1 person is a mauritian citizen you are just allowed

to marry in port louis and not for example on the beach and you need a tons of documents fully apostilled.

Also this takes a month and you have to make sure that your fiance have enough time left on the visa to cover proceeding time of the marriage application and of course the marriage has to be when the visa is still valid.

We are from Austria, but i am a citizen too and they did not accept the birth certificate from my future husband even is my birth certificate is from Austria and looks the same. When i was applying for my passport i had no problem with that document and also not when i was applying for my NIC. So i would recommend to marry in Italy if marriage is an option. After this everything would be much easier.

After they declined the documents i was asking the person responsible for the marriage application what the documents are they need if i marry abroad: Its just the marriage certificate, my NIC and his passport. no other documents

Also please be aware that EU-citizen can stay up to 90 days and have to extend the visa or apply for another one. for example the premium visa if eligable. Since i am quite in the same situation and born abroad in Austria with a partner from an EU-country i am happy to help with any further questions you may have

@Vanessa2909 It would be easier if you get married anywhere else before coming here. Getting married in Port Louis is civil ceremony - but you can have your wedding/vows/party anywhere. They have changed some rules here in Mauritius to make it harder unfortunately
