Marriage certificate snd South African Police Clearance

Post new topic

Hi Everyone

Just a question regarding my Wife who will be a dependent on my Retirement visa that I am in the process of applying for:

we have been married 32 years,  is it a requirement for her visa application that her married name as well as her maiden name must appear on the South  African police clearance or is it enough with just her married name for EDB/ PIO requirement?

Many thanks for any advice on this

Your spouse is your dependent. She does not compete an application. Only you do. She does not require a police clearance certificate. Her application is completed on the day you visit the EDB in person.

I have just had a look at the notes again for dependant on Retirement Visa, and I cannot see any mention of a PCC for dependant  I am not sure how I thought that she did!  Very grateful to you for pointing that out.  So it would only be the Main applicant for the Retirement permit that would need to get a PCC, correct?

Many thanks  Nick

We applied independently for our retirement visas. My argument is that if she is dependent on yours, and you then die she would lose her dependent visa.

@nicholasmound Yes, only the main applicant needs a police clearance. And only you apply. You will feel stressed thinking that your spouse isn't mentioned anywhere. Rest assured, her application is processed on the day you present yourself at the EDB in Mauritius. Her fee will be processed at the EDB once your application is approved. So don't worry that you're only paying for your application at first.

@karibi Was this confirmed to you by the EDB because I'm not sure about that?

When applying for a retirement visa in Mauritius with your wife as a dependent, it's important to ensure that all official documents, including police clearance certificates, accurately reflect her identity. While specific guidelines from the Economic Development Board (EDB) or the Passport and Immigration Office (PIO) regarding the inclusion of both maiden and married names on police clearances are not explicitly detailed in the available resources, it's generally advisable to cover all legal names used.

In practice, including both maiden and married names on the police clearance certificate can help prevent potential discrepancies or delays in the application process. This approach ensures that all possible records are accounted for, providing a comprehensive background check.

To obtain precise requirements and avoid any issues, it's recommended to contact the EDB or PIO directly. They can provide authoritative guidance tailored to your specific situation, ensuring that your wife's visa application meets all necessary criteria.

For further information, you may refer to the official guidelines provided by the EDB:

Additionally, the application form for retired non-citizens may offer insights into the required documentation:

Ensuring that all names are accurately represented in official documents is a prudent step in facilitating a smooth application process.
