Hi,

Can someone advise me if there is place in Vung Tau where I can exchange Russian Rubbles to VND.

Thank you

redislandar

@goranmajer find almost any tourism kiosk and they will exchange currency. I remember seeing one on the street running along Front Beach. By the way, any bank will exchange currency at a better rate than currency exchange offices do. They buy from the bank and add at least a percentage point + for the exchange. Good luck.

Not sure about rubles, but here in Phu Quoc none of the 3 banks my visiting Canuck friend tried would exchange Cambodia riel nor Thai baht, despite both countries being co-Asean.countries. Perhaps this is peculiar to PQ(?)

Perhaps somewhere further up the coast like Nha Trang where there reputedly are a lot more Russian residents.

Of course!

Just take a "short" bus ride from Vũng Tàu to Nha Trang to exchange money.

A much better option than heading up river to HCMC, eh?

😉

My suggestion was based on two things:  1) That it could not be done in HCMC as there were no suggestions in that direction and 2) that the amount was substantial.  If it is a small amount then just take it back home when you go.

Being long on Russian Rubles is not such a good idea right now.   That might make it difficult to find anyone who wants to take them unless they have another way to unload them sooner rather than later.   THe ruble is down about 33% against the dollar for one year and is down about 21% (370 to 293) against the VND for the same period.  Any currency exchange will likely want a good discount percentage to cover their risk against further decline.

Can you tell us what rate they are paying?   XE.com lists the rate at 292.41397 VND (as I type this.).  The high for the day was 295.009.   How far off are they from these numbers?

goranmajer

Sure,

Rate was 227.223....

I am aware is much less then XE.com rate but I am not Russian and I had some cash for last 3 years.

Was working in Russia until March.2020

For your sake it's good that it was a one time thing.   Who knows what the ruble could be worth in another six months or so.
