Building in Central portugal

Post new topic

Jon1050

Hi all, I get a feeling I may become a regular here... I'm considering a project in a village near Tomar, effectively new build. Does anyone have reliable builders contacts I can start the process of getting costs from? E.g. How much does a modern non-stinky sceptic tank cost for purchase and install... If that's a bit specialist is there a forum suitable for this kind of project?

If you've done the paperwork etc to have an plot with declared project then usually your local architect will have the contacts to get quotes and you don't have to accept the quotes but your local architect would be able to discuss build matters as you may not be au fait with the latest regulations.  Stinky (fosse) septic tank tends to mean you don't know how to care for an septic tank

Howevers, builders, as it's Tomar, the 110 going south there's a large builder's merchant - go in and ask them - that's how I got contacts of local builders.

Thanks, good tip. The architects will plan everything, but I want to know real prices of individual items.

Then I suggest you got there and find out as whatever someone elses design for septic tank and it's associated field at their place will be in individual design to fit their building and  it's  use, number of people, number of bathrooms, toilets, showers, washing machines, and the quality + area of the land and design used for the soak. Also cost of delivery, availability, quality, size and design and whatever material it specified, plus labour to install, plumb in etc.

They are called Fossa in Portugal.

If it is a new build you will need to employ an Engineer to submit a project to the council for approval. In the project it will be specified what type of septic system will be built according to local regs and the zone you are in. You will have to have what is specified in the project. There maybe some leeway as to the type, either plastic or concrete, talk with your engineer and take his advice.
