Hi Dyantyi,

My partner (Brazilian) wrote a letter including our details, the address where we live, signed it and added a stamp in a Cartorio. I used that letter as a proof of address to apply for CRNM and CPF.

First, be sure either you or someone with you is fluent in Portuguese. If this is for a VITEM XI, bring your significant other, that is critical. Just my opinion and experience from my RNM interview experience in SP, here are my experiences and opinions about your questions:

The PF wanted to see each item on the list, in order, the same order as provided by your Consulate. They did not want to see anything else, nothing, at all. My recommendation is to not offer anything more, do not even ask for anything more. They were very nice, very professional, and it all went very fast.

Yes, they expected proof of residence, lease, phone bill, utility bill, rent, condo fee bills, literally anything. I do not know if they would accept a statement from someone as they really wanted one simple document. I offered more, they took one, just one page from a phone bill that had my name on it.

I have been told by many people they will not accept an Airbnb or hotel receipt, but I think that would be up to the individual agent, they seem to have a lot of discretion.

My agent wanted a copy of everything on the list, everything that had already been submitted to my Consulate in San Francisco for my VITEM XI, including my birth certificate, which is only in Icelandic. They did not ask for any translations etc. I had a ton of other stuff with me, but they had no interest, so I did not offer up anything. They took photos, fingerprinted me, gave me a banking pre-approval letter, and I was out of there. My CRNM was ready to the day exactly when they said it would be.

Good luck to you, I hope it goes as well for you.

Is proof of residence/address required?

Most of any legal proceedings where you need to get issued anything will require a proof of residence.

Is Airbnb booking confirmation accepted as proof of address?

Most likely not.  They want an utility bill attached to your name.

which other documents are accepted as proof of address for newcomers that don’t yet have phone bills, electricity bill, lease agreement etc?
All of the above. You don't have it, then you  s... out of luck

Is birth certificate required? considering that the birth certificate was submitted to the consulate during the visa application process
A legally issued passport might replace a Birth of Certificate.

@Abthree what is your opinion please?

thank you

Peter Itamaraca

@dyantyi28 About the proof of address, if you do not yet have a utility bill in your name, but have made a good real estate contact, ask them to prepare a rental contract for you. It is pretty easy to do (most agents will have a template), and will work as a proof of address.

Good morning!  My personal visa experience would not be helpful to you.  I was one of the last people processed for residency under the old law --  in fact, I requested residency during the last full week of the old law, and received my card during the first full week of the current one -- so that process was quite different.

In response to this request, though, here's the advice that I would offer:

  • Do your best to keep things friendly and courteous;
  • Never, ever lie to the Federal Police;
  • Listen carefully to every question, answer what's requested, and then stop talking.  While you must always answer truthfully, you are not required to volunteer information not requested, or to discuss everything that's on your mind.  Only volunteer additional information if you think it will help your case.  You want to answer their questions, not prompt additional questions.
  • Have all the documents with you that you used to apply for the visa. Provide the documents to the Federal Police that they ask to see promptly, hold onto the ones that they don't request.
  • On your AirB&B reservation, there's a button that says "Receipt for Visa Purposes".  You could print that out to see whether it would be useful to you.  It's not a lie to say that you're staying in an AirB&B until you find a place where you want to live.

You have a VITEM XI visa, so the Federal Police want to approve your request, and probably will if you don't give them reason to reject it.  Best of luck to you!

I registered my Consular visa at the Policia Federal Lapa SP today

The entire process from obtaining a Consular visa to registration at the Policia Federal was seem less, I couldn’t have wished for better

There was no need to provide birth certificate and proof of address during the PF registration

My consular visa was processed in 3 days and during the registration the people at Policia Federal were very friendly and helpful. I navigated the whole process by myself even though I can’t speak Portuguese. I only know two words in Portuguese, Obrigado and Bon dia

I was registered as a permanent resident and issued an RNM number

in my experience, Brazil has a more efficient immigration processing system than the US, Canada, UK, Australia and many more so called first world countries

Credit should be given where it’s due
