My family and I will be moving to Amsterdam in June, 2024. We are from San Francisco, CA.

I am a private pilot with an instrument rating. I would like to fly in Amsterdam during the 16 months we will be there. Are there any pilots on this forum who can provide info for how to get connected with the Netherlands aviation community? My goal would be to join a flight club and get checked out in a few planes. I'd also love to meet up with other pilots.

Thanks,

Mike.

Hi- I'm not a pilot, but I tracked down some info that might be helpful regarding different flight clubs and what license you'd need to fly inside the EU. Hope this helps!

Thank you!

I also found more info on my own. For US pilots wanting to flying NL, you should read the FAA/EASA TIP-L. You can find links on the EASA site, or FAA TIP-L download.

The abridged version ... This looks to be very easy. Even my IFR license can transfer over. The key is to make sure you are current before you arrive -

  • daytime VFR
  • night time VFR
  • IFR
  • medical
  • biannual
  • etc...

One interesting thing is that endorsements (like my tail-wheel...) don't seem to transfer.

The process appears to be that I will need to do knowledge and practical tests with an examiner who will emphasize testing for the differences between FAA and EASA regs, along with the NL specific regs.
