Colonoscopy in France?

Post new topic

chaslaw

Medical tourism question: Has anyone out there had a routine colonoscopy in France? If so, can you provide an estimate of the cost?

I'm asking as someone who is not part of the French health system.

A comparison of private vs. public clinics would be especially helpful.

Sorry for a question that is about something other than chic cafés or fields of lavender.

Thank you.

Can I ask why France?

@SimCityAT I lived there for several years in the 1980s and 90s and was very happy with their health care system. At the time medical care in France was a fraction of the cost in the US. Plus, I'm very comfortable in French. The only thing I didn't like about French health care was that they insist on taking body temperature with a rectal thermometer. That may have changed.

In fact, since leaving France in 1997, I've gone back there for several medical procedures and have continued to be pleased with the quality and the price (as compared with US rates, that is).

"Price" is probably about 200 € for a sector 1 physician, including polipectomie, plus pre-op envaluation by anesthetist and anesthesia. But a sector 2 physician would be more, and you could expect a facility fee and there would be a difference between public hospital and clinic. So 200-800€?

Thank you. That's very helpful. In the US the cost apparently runs from $4,000 to $13,000.

It can be much cheaper than that, depending on where it's done (both geographic and outpatient/inpatient), whether you have insurance (mandatory under the ACA) or what deal or negotiation is done if no  insurance. Retail prices are just a starting point.
