Hello mrrahman3443,

Welcome to Expat.com 1f601.svg

Would you mind sharing the reasons behind your choice of Germany?

Just like in any other country, having a basic understanding of the local language will likely increase your job prospects.

While you await a more detailed response, I suggest you read the Living in Germany guide for expats. There are articles on Work in Germany.

All the best,

As we have written many times on this forum, not speaking German well is a MAJOR disadvantage on the job market - which comes on top of you not being an EU national and thus needing a work visa.

To still have a realistic chance, you'd have to make upfor it in other ways. Ask yourself:

  • Are you in a niche with a serious manpower shortage throughout the EU?
  • Do you have special skills that are nearly non-existent among Europeans?
  • And, last not least, do you have many months time for a thorogh job search with sending out hundreds of well-targeted applications - possibly with no positive result?

It won't be easy. If you try nevertheless, I wish you good luck!

In any case, to show any potential employer your commitment and willingness to integrate in Germany, you shouls start learning German right now - the Goethe Institute in KL has suitable courses.

Beppi has provided a good answer. Well over 90% of professional jobs in Germany will require a high level of German. Yet there can be some specific exceptions. I just don't know if it applies to your field. But one will always be at a competitive disadvantage in the job market over competitors who do speak German and/or are EU citizen. What special skills do you offer that make it worth the extra effort, cost and risk for a German employer to recruit you?

Another issue not so often mentioned is what level of English one speaks. If one studied in a country like the US, Canada, UK, Australia or N. Zealand then a native level of English is assumed. And although many people in places like India, Pakistan, Nigeria etc. may even speak it as their first language and have been schooled in English, their level is sometimes not up to international business standards. This can be a touchy subject because many from these countries might speak excellent English but it cannot actually be assumed. As an example, I’ve seen many inquiries on this site from people inquiring about jobs with English that was nearly incoherent. The original question here is understandable but honestly not well written. If I was a potential employer reading this I would note that they don’t know German and put a question mark about their English skills.
