@piattepye.  The website for the Brazilian Embassy in Managua does not off the Retirement Visa (VITEM XIV) as one of the visas for which you can apply there.  Contact them by email at consular.managua@itamaraty.gov.br to find out whether you can start the process there.  Before you leave Nicaragua, be sure to obtain your criminal background check from the local authorities, which you'll need to provide to the Brazilian authorities after living so long there.

You can do it in Brazil, but if it's at all convenient for you to return the the US to do it, you'll be much better off.  There will be US documents that you'll need for your application at either a Brazilian Consulate in the US or at the Polícia Federal in Brazil, but for the Polícia Federal you'll need apostilles and Sworn Translations of each document.  At the Consulate you won't need either.

Here's a list of the documents you'll need to provide if you apply at a Consulate in the US; this list is from the Consulate General in Chicago, so check the similar list from the Consulate where you intend to apply for any differences:

The list of documents that must be presented if the process is begun in Brazil at the Polícia Federal is basically the same, plus apostilles from the foreign authorities that issued the documents,  and Sworn Translations prepared in Brazil by official Sworn Translators.
