Hi everyone,

i'm Marco from Italy. Married with 2 small childrens (2 and 4 yo) and i'm working for a Swiss company

In the recent weeks they proposed me (very roughly) the possibility to get a work in China, precisely in our Shanghai branch (Jiading district) for 3-4 years minimum

In these weeks this thought is constantly present in my mind since it could be a great opportunity for us and,  especially, for our childrens that could have benefit and earn a huge life experience.

We are trying to get some info but it's not too easy, our main concerns regards:

  • Cost of living
  • Cost of rent
  • Average income (well, this i should actually clarify with my company)
  • Education for our kids and relative cost

Hope this forum can help us clarifying our doubts and take our decision

Thanks to everyone!

hi  Marco,

Jiading is a famious Car Town in shanghai,  for the following question, please see the comment.

Cost of living

-for our locals, about 3-4000 RM

Cost of rent

-it's about 7000-8000RM

Average income (well, this i should actually clarify with my company)

-based on work, big difference,

Education for our kids and relative cost

-there must be very good international school in Jiding, for so many world class car company there.

but for the best international school, it's cost 50000 RMB a year.

hope these helps.

good luck.

Top international Schools are more like 250,000-300,000 RMB a year. None I know are located in Jiading, and are mostly clustered in Changning & Qingpu districts (West on the Puxi side of town), or on the Pudong side, near Biyun neighborhood or farther. If you want to live where more expats are and be relatievly closer to Jiading, you're probably going to prefer Jing'an or Changning districts.

As an experienced teacher and after 14 years of teaching in Shanghai, the salary for top international schools pay much more than 250000-300000rmb/year.

Most top international schools pay 600000 to 800000 per year plus flights.  insurance,  etc.  250000-300000rmb is what many chinese language schools pay.

I believe member J_in_SH  was quoting 250,000 - 300,000 as the cost of tuition.

The OP, Marco6891, did not inquire about teacher's salaries.

@Aidan in HCMC

ok my mistake

We are on a similar situation although our kids are a bit younger and we are coming from Singapore which makes it harder as Taxes in China seem to be as high as in Europe and Shanghai seems as expensive as Singapore in terms of school and housing
