Medical Certificate

Could someone explain what procedures they do for the Medical Certificate that is required to exchange the drivers licence please?

The UK Gov website says 'A medical certificate following an examination of your vision, hearing, nervous system, internal organs and any past surgery or orthopaedic-trauma. These examinations should be conducted by specialists. You should ask your GP for advice on how to obtain this certificate following the necessary examinations.'

It all sounds very invasive from that, so would like to have an idea. Thanks!

This is common practice all over the EU for 3CN, (but actually, a lot can not exchange their licensee, they have to retake the test.) Which I think is a good idea to make sure people are fit to be driving on the roads.

Of course, if you don't want to have a medical, the alternative is to retake your test.

I recently (6 months ago) underwent the drivers licence swap fiasco. We made an appointment with a local Medical centre that performs the exam. I rocked up with my Bulgarian wife who kindly translates. Was shown into an office. My wife showed the GP several papers ...... they exchanged several sentences .... he was writing, filing out a form the whole time. He never once looked up at me. After several minutes the form was complete the stamp was applied and we were out the door. No breath in for me ..... no chest tappy tap ..... nothing.

Hope this helps.

Hi. I have just exchanged mine, it depends what category/categories you wish to keep… I paid for a more expensive ‘test’, hoping to receive a BG driving licence with all my categories, however they have just changed the rules, to keep all categories requires a psychological examination which I haven’t done.

If you just want to drive your car, an eye test would be enough. See if you have anyone in your region has experiences with Driving License exchange, the doctor (from a clinic or small practice, normally not your GP), will produce a medical certificate after a simple eye test. Take that medical certificate along with your passport and residence permit to the KAT office. An interpreter will help a lot with filling in the forms. Then wait for 30 days, return and surrender your UK driving license. 😅

Appreciate all your responses, thank you :)

Mine asked two questions: do you have 50 leva? are you healthy? I said yes and yes, and 5 minutes later I left with my certificate to go back to KAT. :-)
