What are the realities of life on the islands?

Hola,

My husband and I are looking into relocating to the Canaries once our youngest has flown the nest, so two or three years time.

I have previously lived in mainland Spain, he has previously lived in Australia and New Zealand. Both UK passport holders.

I have been reading some quite negative experiences of living on Tenerife. We are quite drawn to La Palma. What are the realities of life on the islands? We are a Christian family, so a Christian Community would be a massive bonus for us.

Gracias
