According to news reports Social Security and Medicare will not be affected. Passports may be slow in processing, but will still be handled.

Once the mutual crooks are through grandstanding all will be resolved. Same old 1f4a9.svg show.

Every year, same old dog and pony show. as far back as when Obama took office ( I can't recall on GW Bush).  Under Clinton, as crooked as he was, no drama.  He had the Budget Balance while in Office.

Bush Senior, well, short of the Gulf War 1.0 ( they passed to promissory note to Clinton ), he actually managed cuts on the Defense Budget, so much so a wave of consolidations happened under his administration. A lot of Mergers and Acquisitions took place then.

G.W. Bush, OIbama, Trump, and the actual incumbent, all went overboard on Spending Budgets. And the Defense Department always got budget raises , year after year.

Politics all over the world tends to be about politicians and how much they can get bribed.

Shutdowns are always about gaining political advantage, but never about the people politicians are supposed to be representing.

I liken political posturing to a courtroom, where the district attorney and lawyer argue and bump chests.

They grandstand and proclaim eternal truths to the judge and jury. Then behind closed doors, they slap each other on the back, and plan their next golf outing.

Hi Ken thanks for responding, we just got back from Brazil, now back in US. My husband is Brazilian but has been in the US for 45 years, We are working with a great realtor in Itapema. We are working with him on a new build apartment in Porto Bel, next to Peraque.  It will be ready next Jan 2025. This is a very beautiful area and they  have a plan to make it very desirable. It is safe. We plan on retirement there which should make our money go further. if you would like any info please feel free to reach out. Its a big move for Americans, my portuguese is very limited. Good luck to you and your family.
