Aside from getting the security situation under control in the immediate term....ensuring all utilities are functioning.and other challenges...and catching Gaddafi and his sons....I'm looking forward to the many changes we can look forward to in a future Libya.....from the big things to the small things. I admit...I am as excited at the prospect of what the new Libyan currency will look like..passports...etc as I am with the prospect of public libraries..parks...proper infrastructure...a modern public transport system...parks, theatres...proper banking...CAR PARKS!!!.:)))

propects look good.....in a time of austerity measures...Libya has zero debt...and estimated 300-500 billion cash and gold reserves across the world...plus a plethora of business interest in various blue chip companies.....

We are real happy for LIBYA & LIBYANS in general!Kudos to the libyan youth who led from front against the arbitrary & tyranical rule;NTC has a real task cut out to siew the social fabric, assuage the frayed nerves of civic populace - especially of those who suffered incalculable loss of their loved ones. Please get together and organise a silent candle light mourning for the MARTYRED at Green Square.World has been a witness to the resilience of LIBYAN PEOPLE over the past 06 months and now needs to be shown the other facet i.e. REBUILDING,REALIGNING,RESTRUCTURING,RENEWAL OF POLITICAL PROCESS [INTERIM GOVT OF NTC AND THAN HOLDING OF FAIR & PROPER ELECTIONS TO CHOOSE REPRESENTATIVE GOVT] AND REDRAWL OF PEOPLE SPECIFIC POLICIES & DEMOCRATIC REFORMS.The immediacy of action would entail bringing in of some semblence of sanity after years of mis-governance and this freedom war..so many killed, wounded! May ALLAHA give strength to all of you LIBYAN brother's & sisters!
In the year and a half that I got to spend in your beautiful country [as a working expatriate], the most frquently narrated story to me by my fellow Libyan brothers was as regards the visit of "SHEIKH OF DUBAI" in early 1970 for medical treatment and his comment on how developed LIBYA was than!! So the time for a highly oil rich & wealthy nation like yours to become a better and stronger DUBAI of NORTH AFRICA & WORLD has come ; ALLAH BE WITH YOU ALL IN THIS ENDEAVOUR!
At the same time prudence would demand that once the situation stablizes then all weapons be returned to govt armoury - voluntarily by all concerned and peacefull democratic process & restructuring begun. There is an imperative need for financial reforms, equitable distribution of wealth, police and military structural revampment and a disciplined revert to normalacy.
These are tough times for LIBYA and  it is in the hand of the LIBYANS to charter a future course for themselves at this important hour of beckoning for a fortous tryst with destiny.
Once again we salute the people of LIBYA for their resileince and fortitude and wish you all a great success. It will be an honour to return back in future.:D
...this is an historical moment!

Hello all freedom loving Libyans,

First of all I would like to say my sincere condolences to all the innocent victims that have been lost during this war. May their memory live forever.

I am an American but of Albanian by blood. I feel for the Libyan people who are fighting for freedom.

Albanians in the former Yugoslavia went through the same thing in the 1999 war against Serbia.

I was part of the Atlantic Battalion that went to Kosova from the U.S to help the Kosova Liberation Army (KLA). We were mostly U.S born Albanians that were trained in upstate New York and Michigan for 6 months before we were deployed. We were a group of men AND women as young as 16. Some of us were ex U.S military and some of us were ex Yugoslav military. Most of the battalion had no military experience (students etc). We also were Muslims and Christians. There is a lot of footage about the KLA (UCK in albanian) on youtube.

We also had the help of NATO and without them we would have had an uphill struggle. In Kosovo we still acknowledge this and we will never forget their help

I commend the Libyan freedom fighters for their heroic bravery.

I have one observation though. The freedom fighters should not celebrate in front of the worlds media every time there is a camera nearby. This is not making the freedom fighters look good. They should have some patience and professionalism. I know that the feelings in battle are heightened but patience must be observed.

Khaddafi should be captured alive and sent to the Hague to be humiliated in front of the whole world and not killed and dragged through the streets, which is what I think will happen.

A message to the Freedom Fighters....Do not make yourselves like your enemy.

cool story bro.

Fail to see what part of your story has anything to do with Libya or what happened in Libya. Libya is > 95% ethnic arabs and comparing Qaddafi and Jamahiriya to Tito and Communism requires a lot of a stretch of imagination.

douglas1969

Well, they would first need to re-build their country which will cost a lot of money and take some time. You want to go work in a place which has very bad electrical, water and garbage collecting infrastructure???

You then need to wait a little bit to see where and in what direction this thing is heading in. Qaddafi and the former government is finished but there has been a lot of foreign intervention which makes it really hard to separate the BS from truth and as long as there are factions hostile towards the new government, and there seem to be, you run the serious risk of continued warfare.

In my opinion, you would need to wait at least 6 to 12 months to see where this is heading before you make a decision. It could heard towards a tight peaceful co-existence between the new Libyan government and foreign powers and towards the creation of a new modern democratic Western type state and country in North Africa.

They could also flip the bird and kick all foreign powers out. (Highly unlikely!)

But, it could also go the direction similar to Iraq where foreign military is there to only protect oil assets and train local police force and new military but stay of out it and let the Libyans fight their own fight. (highly possible)

In either case, you do not want to go back while there is still fighting and from what we are seeing, there is still fighting going on.

Eid Mubarak everyone! Can't wait to get back to Tripoli! Words are too little to express the profound respect I have for the courage and honor of so many brave Libyans. Sincerest best wishes for the future of Free Libya!!

not a good thing. and not a good way to start a brand new chapter.

and also, their claims to sub saharan warriors is very dubious.

you have had a large black libyan minitory living in libya for many generations co-existing very peacefully. and on top of that an even larger migrant workers from chad and other neighboring countries. this new racist brutality is unacceptable.

I was talking to my business colleagues in Benghazi again yesterday, it was the first time I heard him with a happy voice again; I was so thrilled ...

Libya can only move forward now, am really keen to see the changes, not just structurally but now mentally & physically that people are free.  Those who aren't still with us I hope are lying with a smile on their face for the work they did to loosen Libya's chains!

On a personal level, would love to know a) what remains of Tripoli airport & CAA related offices (past the mosque) and b) whether the new airport structure still exists?  I was surprised to see a Libyan Arab Airlines aircraft on TV the other day, obviously got through unscathed as I've also seen many Afriqiyah aircraft burnt out - can anyone give me more details???

Officeboy - I've seen you've moved to Saudi, you have to return to Tripoli!!!  You did an incredible job via this board!

Can't wait to return ... hope to assist rebuilding in my own way!
