ESD how long will take from deferral to approval

esd my status suddenly changed from decision stage to deferral , that's a bad thing, right? Is it common to enter this state? Please who can tell me generally from deferral to pass. how long will it takes? My visa is ep2. I used to be a PhD student at the University of Sabah but did not graduate, and my student visa expired in August. Will this affect my esd?
