Post new topic

Does anyone know if when I arrive into Thailand with an O type visa, do I need to have an outbound plane ticket or can I arrive with a one way ticket?

Thanks

Yes,you can arrive on a one way ticket.

That's the whole point when arriving on a 90 days Non-immigrant O based on for example retirement.

Try to understand that a 90 days Non-immigrant O Visa based on retirement is designed to get extended one year at the local immigration office in Thailand. That's why a return or forwarding ticket isn't required. Again, 90 days Non-immigrant Visas are not tourist visas. Why do you think a return or forwarding ticket wasn't mentioned when you applied for your visa back home?

At check-in I was asked if I had a flight out of Thailand. I get asked that a lot with one-way tickets, I always make sure I have a (fully refundable) ticket out of the country booked.

You don't need a return or forwarding ticket when arriving in Thailand on a 90 days Non-immigrant visa of any kind. Only when arriving as a tourist you'll need it. It's totally irrelevant if they ask you at check-in. You could have told them you were on a retirement visa, and you knew it wasn't required when you applied for it.

In 20 years of travelling to Thailand iv Never been asked about a return flight

Then you don't know a lot. It's a quite common question when checking in at airports on one way tickets. I've been around since 1989 and I've been asked about it.

People at the check-in desk in other countries (in this case South Korea) don't know the subtleties of different visa types in Thailand and don't care to know about them. I was asked for it and if I didn't have it then no flight for me. I always travel with an outbound ticket when using one-ways, it saves a lot of headaches.

On a one-way ticket? You're lucky.

You're wrong again. You're a rookie and you obviously don't know how it works at check in. If you dont need a return or forwarding ticket, then you don't.Period. At check-in,it doesn't matter which airline we're talking about, they have to follow rules decided by in this case The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand. The MFA, via the Thai e-visa website issued your visa. A visa that doesn't require a return or forwarding ticket. You can always ask for a supervisor at check-in if you have any problem. The person behind the desk might not know every detail, but the supervisor can check it out. You have asked more questions than anyone here at expat.com about every procedure related to your trip to Thailand (and living there as a retiree), but you don't understand the information you've received. You had huge problems understanding how to apply for your e-visa, how to use Wise the smartest way (you still don't know),how to find a condo (incl how a lease works) despite all information I gave you. These 3 steps are really simple and there are way more complicated things coming up.

Do you mind me asking how long have you been leaving in Thailand for and where are you based? Since you seem to be the most knowledgeable person on here 😊

Before I moved here permanently many years ago,I was around since 1989. I was here maybe 3 months a year despite having a full time job. I had an understanding boss and I could plan my own job. I have stayed in 3 provinces over the years. Now I'm staying in Jomtien Beach, just south of Pattaya and I will stay here until I kick the bucket. No more moving. Despite people having problems with some procedures, and maybe the logic behind some laws/rules here are hard to understand, I think every part of my stay here is easy. That includes for example immigration and banking issues. You just need to learn how it works. I never worry about thinks I can't control.

Check out Facebook groups if you want to read posts from clueless people complaining about EVERYTHING you can imagine in Thailand:

They complain about sending money using Wise. I have used Wise since 2017 without any problems what so ever, including no delays. But according to Wise groups it sucks. Just do as it says and you'll get your money in time.

Thailand Post also sucks according to some Facebook groups. I think it works better than the postal service back home. They still deliver everything and everything I've sent did arrive on time. (Bring your passport, they might ask for it when sending parcels.)

Immigration also sucks of course. I haven't read one positive thing about any local immigration office. If people have problems understanding requirements,it isn't immigrations fault imo. The logic is sometime a little bit strange, but that's just the way it is.

Thai banks also sucks big time. I haven't heard of one person mentioning checking out official requirements online. Every Thai bank has a website in English and it's possible to contact branches and ask about requirements for foreigners. Most banks (maybe every bank,I don't know) have a Facebook page. I contacted the new ttb-Bank via Facebook (just for fun) about 3 months ago and got a detailed instruction how to open a savings account. They have a branch not so far from where I'm staying. Maybe I'll give it a shot and see if it works the way they described it. I don't really know if I need another bank account.

I can go on forever. Just accept the way it works here, and you'll have a good time.

Leeds sucks big time, and it's a shame. They didn't play very good the last two seasons in PL and it wasn't a surprise when they got demoted.

Doesn't look like they'll be yo-yo'd up this season either...☹️

No,they won't. It might take time.

The problem with being demoted is players leaving. You almost have to start from scratch and that sucks.
