Foreigner moving to Saudi Arabia and becoming a doctor

Post new topic

Hello friends!

I have a bit of an abstract question.

If a foreigner from europe moved to saudi arabia, educated themselves there and became a doctor, would that make you feel pride over that persons accomplishments? Would you want to tell the story of their success on a forum or to your friends?

Or is it just something that you would expect a person moving to your country to do?

How would you feel about the situation if the person did not find a job or educate themselves?

Please elaborate!

Thanks! 1f600.svg

It is really an abstract question.  For one, there are hardly any Saudi's on this forum as it is usually frequented by Expats.  And for expats, this is not our country.

Secondly, most good Saudi doctors actually go abroad to the western world e.g. US/Canada for their education and then return to Saudi.  Most foreign doctors come here, already educated and usually find jobs if their specialty is hard to recruit for.  There is no point in bringing a foreign doctor over otherwise.  Saudi is not like the rest of the GCC i.e. there is no shortage of Saudi doctors (only nurses).

Third, language is a HUGE barrier to the question that you asked.  As a fresh foreign doctor (not specialized in a hard to recruit specialty) who doesn't speak Arabic, doesn't really have much going for him in terms of job.

Yes, I understand. This was more of a question regarding if it would be seen as an accomplishment or not, in the saudi culture.

Doctors are well regarded here.  Most Saudi's, if their kids go on to become doctors or engineers, like it.  This is in tune with the culture in this part of the world. And unlike other countries with this phenomenon e.g. Pakistan, job opportunities for both professions are in ample supply in Saudi.

I don't see why they wouldn't give the same level of regard/prestige to anyone else, irrespective of nationality.  Honestly, the question just doesn't make any sense to me.
