Duration of stay after losing the job

Post new topic

Hello,

A friend of mine lost his job, he has card A with an unlimited single work permit. How long is he allowed to stay in Belgium until he gets a new job? does the 3 months rule apply to him? or he can stay in the country as long as his resident card (A) is valid?

@rhiarhi

Hi, the card A is as you mentioned: Long Term resident. He will never can be kicked out of Belgium unless he commits a very serious felony (e.g. terorist acts).

Ypur friend is also eligible to unemployment benefits until he is able to get on his feet and find another job.

Take care!

@Rd Devils hooray so he can stay as long as his card is valid?

@rhiarhi  I believe with an A card you have three months to find a new job.  If your friend's work permit is unlimited it should be easier...he could take a job in a bar, etc. to maintain residency.

as long as can prove financial independence (this could be deposit in bank account, prove of retirement , or looking for a job (via vdba) etc. your friend will be fine.
