Hello Everyone,

I am working in Germany as software developer.

My wife got a scholarship for Phd position in the  german University and will be coming to Germany.

My question is, Can i opt for a family insurace and also in this case what will be my tax class situation.

Thank you in advance.

Ph.D. candidates are not qualified for free family insurance, as far as I know - there is a special tariff for them (similar to, but higher than regular students). But ask your public insurer for the details!

Once she is in this tariff, and provided you have no own income, you could be covered for free by her insurance.

The tax class can be chosen as III/V or IV/IV - ask a tax consulant which one is better for you. Please also note that the tax class does NOT determine how much money you owe the state!

Hello everyone,

I am working in Germany as an analyst for a firm,

I need to find a tax preparer that speaks English and familiar with expat taxes, around the area of Darmstadt but does not charge a lot of many to prepare the taxes.

Can anyone help with this request please?

Please email me at: ***

The fees of tax advisers are fixed by regulation, so (except for a difference in interpreting them) you will pay the same at any of them.

There are online lists of all licensed tax advisers. I posted links to them on this forum before (but don't have the link at hand right now, so please search!). You'd have to contact them individually to find out their level of English.

Thank you for the information, if possible and you happened to come across that link again again, please send it to me. I am new to this site and I did search but I was not able to find it.
