Hi! We are two foreigners. We want to register a marriage in Mauritius. What is the first step?

Tutor For All

For foreigners/non-citizens who wish to get married in Mauritius, the process differs depending on whether both individuals hold a residence or work permit or not. If neither of them holds a permit, they can apply for civil marriage by visiting the headquarters of the Civil Status Division in person, contacting them via email (csdregistry@govmu.org) or phone ((+230) 201-2279), or visiting their website (https://csd(dot)govmu(dot)org/Pages/Registration/Marriage-of-two-Non-Citizens(dot)aspx). There is no specific time restriction for registration or publication in this case. However, if one or both individuals hold a permit, they should visit a different website (https://csd.govmu.org/pages/registratio … dding.aspx) for more information. It's important to note that the publication/registration of the civil marriage between a Mauritian and a non-citizen/foreigner must be made at least 30 days before the proposed date of marriage, starting from the 8th day after arrival in Mauritius.

You should apply for it in your embassy.

Visit for the application can take up to a month, depending on their busyness. Then you visit them in person and apply for marriage and pay fees.

Then after a month you come for the marriage certificate.

Since it could take up to two months you have to have valid long term visa (extendable tourist, premium or OP).
