Oh by the way! Federal Police appointment is10am tomorrow!

Post new topic

roddiesho

First thank you to the EXPAT.COM Braintrust, my adventure is almost over.

My wife and I traveled to Fortaleza and the first thing our host (friend of our new lawyer's) said when we arrived at his house for the night was about the appointment.

Spoiler Alert:

  • Their was plenty of maneuvering before and at the meeting, but it was settled in the end.
  • In attendance were me, my wife, a father and daughter legal team and a friend of the family translator for me.
  • The Overstay fee was R$7,250 a bargain, since our bad lawyers had not connected at all with the Federal Police for 7 months. I counted 300 days when we were in Overstay status.
  • We were granted the "go home and come back in 60 days status"
  • As soon as I pay the fine and book the flights i am how do they say..."Coming To America"
  • Probably the most interesting part is that my Brazilian wife does NOT have to go to the Brazilian Consulate with me for the certified Brazilian Marriage license. Some one else has been directed to take her place. This is good news since she is also the CARETAKER in charge and her father is in hospice and my mother living on her property is 97.

Thanx again for all your help.1f609.svg

Good for you Rod.  Maybe you can finally put all this mess behind you and get on with enjoying your life there.

@abthree Thanx! Just in case you didn't catch it, they turned down my wife appearing at the Brazilian Consulate because apparently she used different names on official documents. Both of us are well known by what started out as our nick names. I had mine officially changed. She did not and it can cause problems.

Instead it is our daughter who will be there with me. She was consistent in ALL her documents (I was the one who named her Summer Simmons, so I get the credit for giving her a name she could live with forever).1f602.svg

I saw that, but I misinterpreted it, so I'm really glad that you clarified.  I thought that you meant that the lawyers had prepared a legal Procuração (Power of Attorney) in your wife's name that would allow someone else to act on her behalf.

If the plan is just to send a substitute, then someone better clear that with the Consulate before your travel.  The Consulate's rules seem very clear that the Brazilian spouse is the only one who can register the marriage.  If your lawyers haven't seen this, they should:

Will Do!

Congrats man !

One thing that never fails me in Brazil if you try to do things right and it goes wrong they make it right in the end ! Regardless who's at fault ( excluding criminal behavior of course )

roddiesho

@Mikeflanagan  That reminds me of a very, very long story. Just kidding. When I had my infamous denial to re-enter Brazil. I missed my flight to Jericoacoara on Latham. Once the smoke cleared, Latham, with no fault in the story, re-booked me for the next day and put me up in a very nice hotel with dinner, breakfast and amenities. Also paying for transportation back to the airport the next day.

With all the times I have told the story of being stopped from getting back to Brazil. This is the first time in a long time I have been reminded about how LATHAM made it right.

And it wasn't even their fault.

We flew them from GRU-SDU twice a  couple of weeks ago.......a 45 minute hop. Had a way better experience than sitting for 4 hours on United or Air Canada.

Brasilian airlines are pretty cool. I've flown on Varig, Transbrasil, TAM, GOL, Latam, etc.....Peter and Tony might remember some of those old ones. I remember getting a HOT MEAL AND A BEER (caps for emphasis) on a TAM Fokker F100 flying the ponte area in 45 minutes.

Mikeflanagan

Air canada is really bottom barrel flights for what you pay to fly. 3 hour flight on air canada feels like a 9 hour flight on united lol.

And your right. the hot meals 100% is appreciated on the flights. And when im going between north and south america i usually go azul or gol. azul has always done me right, I always pay extra for a window seat regardless of the plane shuffle after we are in the air ( everyone freely trading seats lol )

I liked Transbrasil.  Their livery was very neat.

One very weird thing about them was, instead of the smoking section being in the back of the plane and non-smoking in front, the smoking section was the left side of the cabin and the non-smoking section was the right side.  Best example of "unclear on the concept" that I've ever seen. 😂
