Public transportation in Cairo

Post new topic

Armand

Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in Cairo ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed?
What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in Cairo?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Hi Armand
I don’t use the public transportation in Cairo on daily basis, but for sure the taxi servic has been developed a lot, it's so easy to find a nice, new and air-conditioned taxi directly from the street and at very fair fees.
Unfortunately the subway needs a lot of development because it became very crowded and not clean as it used to be, but currently there are two new subway lines are under construction, the first one which might be finished by next year will connect the airport and Heliopolis area to the down town and the second line will reach six of October city which will really help to reduce the pressure on the old lines and many people will stop using their cars which will help also to solve the heavy traffic in Cairo.
Microbuses and public buses are not recommended specially for beginners and new arrivals,

the best Public transportation is the Metro and the fastest
the second option is the white taxi, the third (specially if the distance is long)is macro-bus
