We are planning to have our baby born in Brazil

New here.

We are planning to have our baby born in Brazil.  We seem to have a good plan in place.  I have been doing a lot of homework.  I still have a lot of questions.

One thing I wanted to know is.  Is this ok to do on your own?  Or hire a company to hold your hand through out the process?  It would cost me $3-5k USD that I really need elsewhere.

What do you all recommend?  I have been living all over Asia so being overseas is easy for me.  But I don't think I know one word of Portuguese....

Hello all and thank you for your future help!

02/06/24 @easytoremember1.  Welcome!  Birth tourism is still legal in Brazil and is neither officially encouraged nor discouraged.  We've seen a drop-off since the pandemic, and you'll notice that the posts on the topic threads are pretty old.  Nevertheless, you should post your questions there in hope of current responses.  You may also want to send direct messages to some of the posters who have done what you plan.  You can find the threads with the most recent activity here:

Brazil is a monolingual Portuguese-speaking country, so you should definitely pick up as much conversational Portuguese as you can prior to your arrival.

In considering a service, be sure to do your due diligence.  There used to be several scams out there, although many of them are now low-profile and may have closed up during the pandemic.

These threads will help you document your child's birth and apply for Brazilian residency after the birth, if that's your plan.  It is essential to arrive in Brazil with the required document package for both parents complete, with apostilles, to avoid serious complications later.  You can obtain Sworn Translations in Brazil while you're waiting for your child to be born:

Hello everyone, and welcome @easytoremember1
