Retirement visa for Australians

So I just received an email back from the Thai consulate in Sydney. Apparently because Australian passport holders are not eligible for e-visa application, they are required to have health insurance when applying for the 90 days O visa. How is that connected to each other??

So the better option is to apply for 60 days tourist visa (no health insurance required, don't ask me why) and then apply for the 90 days O visa when in Thailand...

Anyone had that experience and can advise if it's a good option?

I received from  Thai embassy in Canberra a 90 day type O non immigrant   visa , no insuranse required

then got another 60 day extension , 1900 baht cost

APEC passport holders have privileges. Check them out they might help you.

AnyThai controlled governmental organisation has its own set of rules, unfortunately....

So you're saying that if I'm applying through the Thai embassy and not the Thai consulate in Sydney I wouldn't be required to have insurance?

That seems very odd. And I didn't even know that you CAN apply via the embassy. I think it says that you can only apply through the consulate, but I'll check that tomorrow.

Thanks

Google and you will see that they do assist in the non 0 retirement 3 months

BUT you need to meet the requirements and it could include 3 months health insurance

although it is not a requirement anymore since C19 has been under control....

Again that is up to the specific office and staff

It's a running theme with anything Thai-related it seems - everywhere you go has its own rules (banks, consulates, immigration offices...)
