My wife and I, recently retired New Yorkers, have.been actively traveling - trekking in Central Asia, Jordan and other places, bicycling throughout Europe, but when a need to place to rest and call home, France is the country. We were in Avignon, but truly feel at home in the city of Besancon and the surrounding villages of Bourgogne Franche Compte. We are thinking of making a home here. Does anyone in the forum live in the  district.?

Have you made a decision? I'm looking at doing the same when I retire in a couple of years.  Besançon and France check a lot of boxes for me. Its location is ideal for starting a tour from home. I love Abruzzo and Pugia, but either would require a train trip to a start point unless I want to spend a lot of time cycling the Adriatic coast. I hope to work a day or two stop into a trip to France this coming Fall.
