Minimum income requirement retiree residency

Post new topic

Hi, I'm very pleased to have found this resource. I'm a 66yo retired Brit hoping to move here in the autumn, current intended location Curepipe (the cooler climate that the coasts on the West and North appeals!)

Just one query at this stage. I'll be applying shortly for the 10-year retiree residency permit for non-citizens, and all the sources I've consulted so far - official and other - say there's a minimum income requirement of USD18,000 pa. However in the 72-page expect.com document (p.16) it says the minimum income requirement is USD40,000 pa. Can you please confirm which is correct? If the latter, my dream of moving here would be over, something I don't want to contemplate. Thanks.

Hello and welcome Mike !

Please note that I have created this new thread from your post on the Mauritius forum so that members can guide you.

Official infos can be found here : https://residency.mu/retire/retired-non … -50-years/

It says USD 18,000 per annum.

Feel free to send them (the EDB) a message, there's a contact us button on the same page if you scroll down.

Bhavna, thanks, that's a relief! The 72-page expat.com guide with the higher figures is gere (p.16):

@mike102 HiMike, and welcome. I have looked into this too. The expat guide uses an older out-of-date number. Current requirement is $1500 per month, or $18000 per year. You can apply from the UK via the EDB site -- do NOT use anything else. Register your account, fill in the forms, upload the documents and wait for the agreement in principle.

Good luck, and keep in touch. You can send me a private message if you wish.

Hello, I had a look at the look and this guide is an outdated one published by another website (middlesex.mu).

@Tookays

Thanks Tookays, much appreciated. Next challenge is to understand what will be acceptable as a "Certificate of Character" in the first stage of applying for a 10-year retiree residency permit. Would I need to approach the police in my home country (the UK), do you know? Thanks.

I can then give you my number

You must show the equivalent of $18,000 in your UK bank account when you apply.

You must submit a certified bank statement with your balance with your other documents when you apply online. When you are approved and arrive here, you will open a Mauritian bank account and transfer the funds within 90 days. Do not look at the monthly $1500 amount! I have just gone through the process and that is what I can share with you.

@SarahCansler

Thanks. That helps. I think you have to now show your bank balance for at least 18k USD, and the income per year that you can transfer into Mauritius. One of the problems is that it is almost impossible to get 'certified bank statement' from UK banks. Could you please elaborate how you did this to upload into the electronic form?

Very happy to hear that you have got the permit.

Best wishes
