Hello I am new to this forum.

I am an American citizen who has been living in France for 30 years. I want to leave and return to the U.S., my home country.

Can anyone tell me what I must do to leave francce? who do i need to inform? do i pay exit tax? must i shut down all bank accounts? Thank you for your advice. Elise R

Leaving France after so long must feel like a big step. From my experience, you'll want to inform the local authorities, especially if you're registered as a resident. It's also a good idea to let your bank know about your plans. Regarding taxes, you may need to pay an exit tax, so it's best to check with a tax advisor. Don't forget about healthcare and residence permits; you'll need to make arrangements for those too. Lastly, cancel or transfer your utilities and subscriptions before you leave.
