Looking to pull the trigger late January.  I actually talked to one based out of Sao Paolo and said they could work with me for 5k reals, but didn't have a person on the ground there.  Also was looking to shop prices.  Would probably do it myself, but I have some stuff that might pop up on my record from two decades ago that I'm not sure how they'll view depending if it even shows up on the background check (one technically might even be viewed as a felony arrest on trumped up fake charges of assaulting a cop when I was running away from a party and he tore his knee when I gave him a spin move, pretty sure its expunged, and it didn't stop me from getting in military).  Also just don't want to deal with the stress as I am already moving with a dog in cargo (flight gets in at 6 45 AM so weather would be fine, but you never know).

If anyone can recommend anyone, I'd be grateful.  Also its my understanding that I will need health insurance, any idea of costs for something basic my age (I'm healthy and anything serious I have VA care in the states if need be)

05/26/24 @Mannimal.  Good evening.  If you're concerned about what might be on your background check, you can get one yourself anytime and know for sure.  It may be more convenient for you to go through an Approved Channeler.  Here's the FBI's list:

A Channeler can get it to you in a couple of business days.  I've always used a Channeler, but you can certainly go directly to the FBI.  Either way, getting your background check is not viewed as suspicious by anyone.

Once you have it, you'll have a better idea of whether you'll even need a lawyer or not, and what you'll have to discuss with him/her.
