Hello everyone. im George, my wife and 2 kids live on Bohol. we enjoy off grid solar farming and living simply in this gorgeous paradise. i am a retired ship captain and my lovely wife is tending the farm while i close out life stateside.

Are any of you using starlink in rural areas? i have been wondering how it compares to other off grid systems.

@Glongshore We have StarLink in Davao City.  hIghly recommend it! have had it 3 months

previously had Globe and Sky Fiber  neither were fast or dependable. StarLink had an initial equipment purchase price of 18,500 peso with a monthly subscription price of 2750 peso

the others were about 1900 per month with no equipment fee.

we have had one period of no service during a torrential rain storm last night

have had up to 9 users online ( on purpose) and it still streams NetFlix thru a VPN without issue

Just put in Starlink a couple days ago, had Globe which was ok.  Reason for Starlink is brother in law is brilliant computer specialist.  With Globe he could not work from home but had to commute to Manila. With Starlink he can work remotely from home.  2nd day with rains of biblical proportions we did lose the signal, possibly a glitch, too soon to tell. Has worked well in heavy rain.

You cannot tell because you do not know the density of the cloud cover or the sensitivity of the satellite which may vary. What I would do is put globe data on my smartphone and set up a hotspot when you lose the satellite. I do that here but I have pldt landline which goes out for different reasons; sometimes the DNS servers in cebu are down and both pldt and globe seem to share them at times so it doesn't help to have backup. But in your case i suspect starlink will not go down for their dns issues, only for cloud cover. It is cheap enough to try out using globe data, which is pretty good and not too expensive when using the 1 week promos.
