Hi, anyone from the UK living full time in the Philippines with no UK home address anymore?

Not moved yet but planning to in the next couple of years.  I did not manage to get back on the property ladder post divorce, have no family remaining in the UK (where my bank and pensions are based) and won't have enough pension to continue to pay rent in the UK and live a reasonable life in the Philippines.  My question is, is there a way to continue with a UK address and have any mail forwarded (debit cards, passport renewal etc) that is not too costly? Or what do you guys and ladies do?

Passport renewal is done online and you send it with DHL and pay for the return by DHL as part of the application process.

With regard to banking, I suggest you open an online bank account while you are still in the UK, HSBC is the best online bank I think. Ask a friend if you can use their address for this purpose because once your account is open and you have your debit/credit card everything after that is managed online and once you are here in the Philippines, you just contact them online and change your address.

The main problem you will have is, until you are able to open a Philippines bank account you will have to withdraw your money from ATM's and most banks here charge 250 pesos to use their ATM's with a foreign card but if you withdraw the maximum allowed to withdraw I guess it's not too bad.

I use a mail forwarder and their address. While the address is a small monthly charge, it only gets expensive when important things have to be forwarded to you on a timely basis.

Renew your passport before your move to the Philippines, it will be many years before you will have to renew it again.

Having a UK address will be important to you to eliminate proof of life for pensions and subsequent payments.

Hi and welcome to the forum aragornbella.

If you don't have any relatives to use their address, then have you looked at the following.

Many expats use mail forwarding companies but make sure you can use their address for your banking and pension needs.

You will also need to look into one time passwords and a phone number for the text msg from banks etc. some banks won't accept O/S phone numbers but I have never had a problem with a Filipino number with my banks, I had that number for years and simply swapped when I closed my Australian number down before I moved here full time.

Good luck.

Cheers, Steve.

Once you have your cards they are typically active for about 5 years or so, so you have plenty of time to make other arrangements when you are here in Phils. But it must be an online bank, I had a UK bank account and they closed because I came to live here.

Hi,

your embassy/consulate will renew your passport. There is no need to do it out of the Philippines.

I have no address in Austria anymore and my bank is sending me the cards (Debit card and Credit card) to the Philippines.

What kind of visa are you planning to use? Retirement visa, marriage visa or tourist visa (which you extend every 2nd month)?

That is incorrect with regard to the UK. The British Embassy in Manila will not renew your passport and you cannot submit you passport renewal application to them for processing, you must apply by mail or courier service to the passport office in the UK.

You have to go online and to uk.gov website and follow the instructions to "renew your passport from overseas", there you fill in an online application and pay the processing fee, then you print of your application and send to the passport office in the UK along with your current passport.

Which is understandable given the potential for fraudulent activity. The vast majority of embassy employees are indigenous citizens.

When I renewed mine for a Brexit passport I asked if I could have a signed copy by Nigel Farage but they refused..
