Going to the north permanent residency

Post new topic

Hi just asking if going to the north with a Permanent resendancy do you still take your passport and card ? And do they still not stamp your passport and do it on some paperwork  whats the current process

Toon

A residency permit is not valid for travel.... You must still take your passport...

As for passport stamping I cant really say as its 4/5 years since I've been over...   But passports are scanned anyway.

Am old enough to remember the days when stamps in your passport were a badge of honour for the well travelled .. lol

Best to take both with you.... better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them

We crossed over at Famagusta in a May and our IDs were put aside while our passports were scanned through a machine each way and not stamped.

We had what we thought were the right docs for the car (insurance and proff tax was up to date) big were told for future trips to bring a copy of the log book. We don't have the original as car we bought it with finance.

As @Toon says take both to save any trouble. Some countries still go to stamp the passport, they shouldn't but we have concluded that they are going into autopilot. Anyway, the stamping of passports will stop towards the end of this year for Europe. As the passports will be digitally stamped.

@SimCityAT

Tbh some passports gave been digitally stamped since 2019 for obvious TCNs as a friend of mine and obvious TCN had no stamp in their passport but when they applied for residency they were told they were here illegally as their passport was digitally stamped .. with a short stay digital stamp of only three weeks..... Problems ensued big time .

And yes if crossing with car then log book of car is required.

It's just not wide spread yet with all countries. I think October is when it fully goes into effect.
