Brazil Digital nomad visa failed to register with PF

Dear Community,

My Brazil digital nomad visa was issued on August 30, 2023. My initial entry into Brazil was on January 9, 2024, but due to personal reasons, I had to return to the USA after just a week. This short stay prevented me from registering with the Polícia Federal within the required 90 days.

I am now planning to move permanently to Brazil, but my visa expires soon, on August 30, 2024, which is in just two months. Could you advise me on the best course of action to register with the Polícia Federal and maintain my digital nomad visa status?

Welcome.  Since you seem to still be in the US, your simplest route would probably just be to apply for a new Digital Nomad visa at the Brazilian Consulate that services your state.  Check the fine print on the face of your 2023 visa:  since you never made it to the Federal Police at all, the visa may have expired already anyway.  If you were able to qualify in 2023, you should be able to qualify in 2024.

@abthree Thank you for your valuable feedback! Indeed, i am still in USA. I have my trip to Brazil this saturday already, and my current digital nomad visa hasn't expired yet. Do you think i should abandon this idea of registering with PF after 90days of my first entry?

That depends.  You wrote above that you're about to "move to Brazil permanently"; does that mean as a Digital Nomad, or that you plan to change your status to something like family unification, by marrying a Brazilian, for example?  If it's the former, you might as well try registering with the PF.  Even if they let you register you'll probably need to renew your residency next month anyway, so I have to assume that you have the documents you'll need to do that with you.

If it's the latter, that is, if you're getting married and have all  the documents with you that you'll need to become a permanent resident on that basis, I'd recommend getting your relationship formalized quickly and go to the PF on that basis.

@abthree Your response is highly appreciated. Regarding my previous mention of 'permanently,' I meant for the duration of the Digital Nomad Visa, including the possible extension for an additional year.Unfortunately, no marriage or other union in this case for me.

I plan to proceed and try to register with PF anyway. I will have a valid excuse ready for being late, just in case it's needed.

I've heard that as long as I pay the late registration fee, it should work. However, my concern is that I'm three months late and my Digital Nomad Visa is nearing its expiry date.

06/28/24 @Kancaans.  Have a good trip, and best of luck to you.  Please let us know how it goes.  The more of the documents required for your renewal that you can bring with you, the better.

@abthree , they granted me residence permit, i simply had to pay 100 reas fine for being 90 days late.

Would you please know the answer to my question - i only have my temporary card, which they paper  printed and gave to me. Can i use it to leave brazil and come back if I need While they prepare my plastic card?

That should be possible; I think that others have done it.  You don't want to leave the plastic card waiting at the PF office indefinitely, however.
