I've just lost a tooth filling

Post new topic

Kath948381

So I suppose I'll have to get the early bus to Pomorie tomorrow morning to visit a dentist, lucky me.

Kath948381

And I've no idea how much a new filling will cost me, do you have any idea of dental filling costs?

janemulberry

Hugs. The only dental prices I could find on Google were for health tourism clinics which I am sure will cost more than a local clinic. I found a price for a regular dentist in Sofia who said 70 leva for a filling. So I doubt your local dentist will charge more than that.

I'll be interested to see what the actual cost is. Hubby is having dental work done in the UK and it's £160 per filling!

Hi i can tell you my wife had work done here in Vratsa by an excellent dentist in a clean modern surgery recently.

An extraction was 40 leva, a combination of crowns and bridge for ten top teeth was 2000 leva.

She didnt have a filling but just looked at the price list and they were also 40 leva.

Kath948381

Can anyone tell me if I need to take a copy of my Bulgarian health certificate with me to the dentist tomorrow?

Kath948381

Thank you for your replies. I'm not going to a tourist area in Sunny Beach because I know that will cost a fair bit I'm going to Pomorie, which isn't a British tourist magnate although it's on the Black Sea coast.

Kath948381

I'll let you know how much I'm charged

grahamstark1

@Kath948381

If you do as far as I know you are entitled to one free filling a year.

Kath948381

Thank you Graham

I've put a copy in my hand bag along with my Bulgarian residency card.

If you're planning a visit to The Smoke (ie Sofia) anytime soon, you can get it done at the Dental School of the Medical University for nothing (or c2 leva if they need to take an X-ray 1f60e.svg).  They also carry out pretty much every kind of treatment you'll ever need, again either free or at miniscule cost.  It makes no difference if you're registered with the BG health service or not.

IIRC the work will be done by 4/5th year students under the supervision of a professor.  The work is done well, and most of the students are foreigners who speak good/reasonable English.

Kath948381

So I've heard Jim but I'm not planning or need to verify sit Sofia . I was told that Bulgaria was a good place to find or study dentistry.

Kath948381

Verify sit? Visit Sofia

I'd imagine that replacing a lost filling is one of the smaller jobs on the menu. I'd guess in the 50-150 lv range, depending on your dentist, and how straightforward it is tomorrow. But, as you're there, you might want do a check-up and cleaning, which is a separate item (maybe 100-150 lv).

As mentioned by @JimJ the teaching universities do very inexpensive treatment, and Plovdiv also has a big place. Might be worth looking into if you're on a very tight budget and need a lot of work done, but I doubt it's worth the aggravation for a filling.

Some dentists are affiliated with the health system, so it's probably worth taking your certificate and asking them, just in case it saves you a few leva.

Kath948381

Thank you gwyn I got there and one of the dentists had a note on the door saying it will open at ten rather than nine so I walked to another dentists only to find that it's closed until 31 July so walked back to the first dentist and eventually managed to get an appointment for 9.30 am on Wednesday. Thankfully I'm not in pain but I think I've got hey fever because of the heat.

As for trainees someone posted to get volunteers for free treatment at a training hospital in Varna but as a non driving old biddie it's to far for me to travel to.

janemulberry

Glad you got an appointment.  I hope it goes well.

Kath948381

Fingers 🤞

Kath948381

Well I went to the dentist yesterday, he read my health certificate but said that he was private not part of the health system but he did a good job and charged me 120 lev

JimJ

@Kath948381

Sounds like time to find another dentist.  Have a look in Superdoc, there are plenty in Varna who work with the health service..

Kath948381

But I live near Burgas

Kath948381

I don't mind paying for a good job done. While I was in the UK I had a National Health Service dentist and they filled the same tooth over and over so much so they stopped charging me the NH S costs. So I went to a private dentist paid more but the filling lasted at least five years if not longer well worth the money.

Kath948381

And the Bulgarian dentist didn't cost as much

JimJ

@Kath948381

So look in Superdoc under Burgas.....😁

Kath948381

Will do Jim

I still have a couple of metal amalgam fillings that went in when I was in my teens, 60 years ago. Even the modern "porcelain" fillings should last at least 10-20 years, unless they're really abused. Five years is no time at all...
