Where do expats in tech hangout?

Finally, I got my visa and arrived here on the 20th, big thanks to @Aidan.  It's quite exciting and overwhelming because I get to learn a new language, and my Chinese skills aren't useful here. I'm currently in Hanoi with my wife, who is American, while I'm Nigerian. My wife does voice-over, copywriting, and video ads for companies based in the US while I do software development and robotics.

I have a couple of questions:

  1. Where do expats in tech usually hang out?
  2. Besides sightseeing and clubbing, what do people here do for fun?
  3. What's the best way to learn the language? I find it somewhat similar to Mandarin in some aspects.

We'd also like to meet entrepreneurs in the area and also should anyone need any of the services above, my dm Is open.

I guess the visa agent I provided didn't help?

aremuabisoye

Thanks for recommending the agent. She advised me to continue editing the application, as she might receive similar feedback since I've already begun the process. I'll keep her contact information in case I decide to apply for a spousal visa in the future.

Thanks a lot

So she didn't attempt to charge you for unnecessary assistance?

That's consistent with her character.

I highly recommend the "Hanoi Massive Community" Face.book group (many groups with that name; choose the one with 138,000 members).

Please first invest in a couple of good city tours with a reputable tour agency there.

Also, InternationsDOTorg is very active there and a great means of networking with other like-minded expats.

@OceanBeach92107

I'm surprised too.

Unlike the other agents I've spoken with, one agent on Facebook explained that 'declined' is a polite way of saying that Vietnamese Immigration has refused the visa.

She's just different in her approach. Thanks again for the recommendation.

I joined the "Hanoi Massive Community" yesterday and it's truly massive. I am not a big fan of Facebook so hoping for a Zalo community where I don't get unwanted recommendations. I will be on the lookout for InternationsDOTorg.

Any suggestion on where to get a good work desk?

I believe member aremuabisoye  is speaking in terms of their current spouse applying for a spousal visa when/if the member establishes residency in VN.

Haha, that really made me laugh! Thanks for helping me with that @Aidan. My wife got a job offer here, so I might apply for a spousal visa once she gets her TRC.

@aremuabisoye hello man, did you find the answer?  I'm also a Tech Engineering, living in Saigon, and I didn't find more than 10 people with our profession.  Most of expats here are language teachers or retired from USA or Canada.  If you find a group, please invite me. ;)

My Journey in Vietnam has been good so far, lots of food.

My wife and I are in a bit of an issue now and we need help and suggestions.

  1. She's got a job already who's willing to make her visa, her visa expires on August 17,  and she wants to do border runs to come back, however her company said a "business visa" takes 2 weeks to process. I have asked other agents who claim it could be expedited to a same-day visa. So, can business business be expired?
  2. I heard Laos is the best for border runs for people in Hanoi. Is this true and has anyone done border runs through Laos, what's the process?
  3. On returning, She needs to submit her document for work permit and then exit for TRC. The information we got from her company is

            Work Permit: 20 Working Days

            TRC/Visa: 20 working days

Question: Can this process be expedited?

4, My visa expires in 58 days, and I look forward to doing TT visa through her work permit. I am currently on a tourist visa and would like to know the TT visa process and what we need to prepare before the application to reduce delays. Also how long does TT visa takes?
