SEK: Am I reading prices wrong?

Hi was looking to spend a few months in Sweden, around Stockholm to begin with. I started looking for an apartment to rent but I'm astonished by the prices.

For example, this website:

http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/co … try=Sweden

gives the cost of 1 bedroom accommodation averaging between €400 and €600 per month depending on location with extremes being €300-€900 depending on location. That seems about right

Yet I've been to two websites and the prices seem crazy. For example here:

redappleapartments.com/stockholm/monthly/en/
vianicoline.com/ApartmentsStockholm.htm

In that second one it shows, for example SEK 14 000 per week, which is over €6,000 per month! So maybe I chose a super exclusive area or something. But on the first site (red apples) it's almost as bad, between €2,000 and €4,000 per month and many of those just seem like small apartment on the outskirts of town.

The cost of living page (above) puts the average income at around €25,000 so there is no way 1 bedroom apartments can be averaging €2,000 per month.

What am I reading wrong? does SEK 14 000 real mean fourteen thousand SEK (€1,550).

Where do I go to to find the €600 to €1,000 per month apartments?

Thanks for reading. Peace.

Christine

Hi najinsky,

Welcome to Expat.com! :)

I don't know anything about the Swedish rental market but it looks very much like that second site is intended for short-term rentals, for vacation or business trips. The prices are therefore not that surprising- you'll see similar monthly costs anywhere if you look at short-term furnished rental costs. If you compare the prices for a week's stay at one of those apartments to the price of a hotel room in Stockholm for a week, it's definitely a better deal in the apartment.

Hi!
in Sweden is common and regulated by law also the second or third hand letting, the suggest choice for sort term stay, or at least till you are confident with the zone.
When you own an apartment, the monthly expenses are quite high, including heating, cleaning, maintenance, etc...I wouldn't like you checked web site offering such proposals.
Look at this one, which is also quite nice for room rental:

Bye, good luck.
