Possibility for using Bahrain registered car in Saudi Arabia

Post new topic

GuestPoster5209

Hi, I am moving from Bahrain to Saudi Arabia on a work visa (Saudi Iqama holder). I own a 2011 model car registered in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The vehicle is insured & registered until Sep 2025 in Bahrain and my Bahrain CPR is valid for 02 more years. But my Bahrain RP will be terminated within 01 months.

I would like to know how many months I can use my Bahrain-registered car in Saudi Arabia even if my RP is cancelled.

Car has nothing to do with RP.   You just won't be able to renew registration anymore.   And eventually if you want to sell the car, you won't be able to without renewing registration.   As per rules from Saudi customs, foreign number plate cars need to exit every three months or else there is a daily fine.  In practice, it varies.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.  So that means I can use my Bahrain registration car in Saudi Arabia if I have a valid Causeway insurance? I do visit Bahrain on weekends as I'm eligible for visa on arrival so the three months exit issue won't be there.

Since the car registration is valid until Sep 2025, isn't it possible to sell my car later (Before Sep 2025) even though my Bahrain RP is cancelled?

XTang

You need CPR to sell the car.

Motosoul

My CPR is valid until 2027.

Hi, Could you please advise if there will be any legal issues if I use my Bahrain registered car in Saudi Arabia with Bahrain License being a Saudi Iqama holder.

NB: My Bahrain RP will expire next month. But CPR is valid until 2027 and Car registration until Sep 2025.

Theoretically, you should get a Saudi driving license if you are an Iqama holder.  Practically no one will check if you are driving a Bahrain car.  I have been doing the same since 2017 between Riyadh and Bahrain.

Thanks for the information. But how did you manage to keep the car since 2017? Did you keep the Bahrain RP active during these years? If not how was the vehicle registration renewal done in Bahrain without RP. And did you visit Bahrain with a visa on arrival?

XTang

I have a valid residence visa in both Bahrain and KSA.  I drive to Riyadh every week and come back on the weekends.  You need to have valid residence / CPR to be able to renew your vehicle registration.

Hi, I am about to get my hands on a car to get myself across the causeway, similar situation to XTang, Saudi Iqama, CPR for Bahrain.  Other than insurance for both sides, is there anything else i need to do to be able to drive to work tomorrow across the causeway?  Car should be registered to me BH insurance will be transferred and I will amend it to provide fully comp for KSA / GCC.  I don't have a BH license only KSA.  Am I missing anything ?

XTang

Car needs to have valid registration in Bahrain and in your name (if it is not in your name, you need to get permission / NOC from the owner - this includes banks or lease car companies depending on your situation).  3rd party insurance for Saudi, you can buy on the causeway.   GCC cover is up to you if you want to cover damage to your own car in Saudi.  License no issue.  I drive Bahrain car in Saudi on Bahrain license - never had an issue so other way should be fine as well.

XTang

You can renew car registration easily before travelling to address your concerns.  Dont get why you would want to take a risk of fines.
