Golden Visa through real estate purchase cancelled-Ramifications

Hello. I'm curious about the ripple effects of Golden Visa by real estate investment discontinuation as it relates to people who purchased property, got their golden visa approved and then proceeded to live in Portugal on and off and as a result spending less than 183 days in Portugal in some years. Did they have to leave Portugal for good after the real estate route was cancelled since they no longer had the grounds for extending the golden visa while also not being able to apply for permanent residence permit because they spent more than 183 days outside Portugal in some years?
