Programs online to acquaint the opposite sex.

Post new topic

Cannonball 9

Having been away from Indonesia sometime I need to update myself about online programs.

In the past an individual (male or female) could join a program where a person could submit a photo, online name and short explanation concerning one's self, and their description being of the opposite sex sought.

Now I no longer see anything of that semblance other than American very expensive and rather sleazy  (excuse me) Las Vegas produced offering (no offense intended).

Thank you for your information and guidance.

Fred

I just meet real girls. It's so much more fun.

Of course. being old, fat, poor, and a little smelly means those days are over so I got married.

It was very hard finding a blind woman with serious hearing problems and a blocked nose.

It took ages but found one who can neither hear nor smell the flatulence.

Of course there are dating sites, but they are commonly populated with scammers and prostitutes

I concur with Fred on dating sites. Nothing is ever quite as it seems from the countless number of foreigners who have for example arrived in the Philippines to meet their 'gal' only to be relieved of a good portion of their financial assets.

In Indonesia there is now a 'twist' in the saga of finding a date to.. ahem 'mate' with. There is government legislation in progress that will mean unmarried copulating couples caught, to use the Latin 'habens sexus' can be fined/jailed if they are reported by a member of the relevant family.

Presumably the government ministers involved in formulating this asinine new law have no financial interest directly in the tourism industry. Yes you could not make it up if you tried.

The Bali authorities have naturally thrown the proverbial rasberry to the above legislation effectively making it a paper tiger.

Would be interested to hear from other contributors on this Forum as to what the enforcement procedure (if any) would be in for example the capital Jakarta.

That's an old scam a copper mate told me about years ago.

Man meets girl

Man thinks he got lucky

Hotel room

Trousers down

Knock on door

Husband demanding cash or it's policeman time.

I suspect that's a lot more likely on a dating site

I can't say about what happened in the past and what happens now, but going onto a site to find girls is kind of sordid in my opinion. Have never done that because it is so easy to meet girls without every going on to those sites, unless you are totally gross, and even then gross blokes can meet gross girls without those sites.

Why don't you try meeting people in your everyday life?

We live in a strange world where 'online' is the winner in a competition against 'common sense'.

Online shopping is fine for ordering pizza or items for the house, but it's a really crap way of finding a life partner.

A solid relationship is founded in meeting real life people, not shopping for the right size breasts in fake profile pictures.

In a lot of Indonesia, you sort of will do.

Most women are still unknown to men until they marry. That doesn't apply to the prostitutes and/or gold diggers a lot of 'bule bubble' foreigners think are typical Indonesian girls.

I recall reading a thread on another forum about how Indonesian girls are easy, then he mentioned where he met them.

He didn't give any information about the range of STDs he collected.

There isn't a whole lot to expand upon beyond what has been said, my life in Indonesia has taken different forms. First as a tourist, then as as an exporter of goods from Surabaya, then as an expat in Bali combined with business trips to the US,.

Having lived in Bali more recently with a retirement visa eventually lost interest with its change and now hope that Surabaya which i have found to my liking in the past still has its charm. There is a chance of re-entering to exporting.

Too often in the past I have found the life of an expat is boring with not enough activity other than life in the local pub to satisfy his needs. I enjoy having some business  form to make life challenging. To each his own.....right?

My father once said to me when I was at school its a pity they don't teach a 'common sense' class once a week. Never forgotten that line.

There are many perceptions about online dating but apparently about 50% of marriages in the western world met through this medium. I can see the attraction of it logically. Here there are relatively few scams going on as a % of the members listed which of course is not mirrored in Asia. But you can source a great deal of information about a potential partner before meeting up not least photographic evidence. As Lieutenant Spock would say it's the logical approach.

Moreover many males find it challenging initiating a conversation with the opposite sex. Even in this liberated world we live in it is still expected of the male to initiate the first move. In Asia meeting the fairer sex is (forgive the expression) akin to shooting fish in a barrel. Asian women like western men.

For me I still subscribe to the serendipitous fate of meeting a woman offline.

A few years ago I stayed at the Majapahit hotel in Surabaya. I flew down from Jakarta after a business trip if only to stay at this delightful property of colonial Dutch heritage for a few days and soak up the atmosphere in the extensive manicured garden grounds and observe the colourful exotic avian wildlife.

One evening I got talking to a British expat in the hotel pub. He worked for an oil company offshore and was there on a 2 year contract. He was bored out of his skull and missed his GF back home.

I do enjoy going for walks but as you will know its an industrial city and frankly the furthest I got was the mall just up the road from the hotel.

Marriages from online dating.

A quick Google throws up 10% (Guardian, UK) to 30+ %.

It seems to depend on who reads what, and who believes what.

I wonder what the divorce rate is like when compared to face to face dating.

On a personal note - No ruddy way.

Never done it, never considered doing it, and can't see me ever bothering.

I realise I'm a retired disgusting biker, but I recall more than a couple of chance meeting that turned into test drives.

I suppose the online dating turns a ride into the countryside and a seculed spot behind a hedge into a tender moment with Mrs. Palm and her 5 lovely daughters.

Online dating loses the fun of the chase, and lots of great experiences ...... oh, and a few bad ones.

I'll stick to ordering pizza online.

Since you have so much experience in Indonesia, why do you need an App or site to find women?

I remember over 20 years ago, my best mate got a divorce in the UK. Apparently his wife (who I'd known for around 20 years from when they first dated in university) decided that she had married too young and wanted to sleep around for a year and asked him to wait a year for her.  But he discovered it was their best friend who was also married but living in a different part of the country, that she was having an affair with.

Anyway, they got divorced, she went onto dating sites in the UK. It turns out that what all these men who joined the site were doing was looking for divorced women in order to get easy sex. So anyway, she dated a few men, finally met an ex-copper and they've been together for the past 23 years or so. They happily moved to the continent where they are enjoying life together.

Now when I think about such a website in Indonesia, I see it as probably well used slags, old slags, divorced slags making up tons of crap to post on their profiles. Probably a sporty middle aged romantic woman who likes to work out at the gym, enjoys reading and travelling and having a good time, especially if it is paid for by a western man. And then there is an ex-mate of mine who kept showing me pictures of young Indonesian or Filipino oand Thai girls posing in bikinis or underwear and looking for a western man. I kept telling him to stop sending me those kinds of pictures as it's embarrassing.

My advice is that you go out to do your normal things, mall, supermarket, bank, gym, telkom shop, wherever, and just meet people naturally. If you are a westerner then probably girls might be more interested in you too. I just don't know why you posted this topic since you seem to be experienced in Indonesia.

The first is a shade harsh (I won't argue much)

As for bikini pictures, they are pretty much guaranteed to be either on the game or gold diggers. Bikinis are not normal here.

Moving on to meeting women in real life. That's the way to go.
