Hello everyone,

As an expat in Thailand, taking care of your health would be one of your main priorities. Preventive healthcare plays a crucial role in keeping fit and healthy. We therefore would like to invite you to share your insights on preventive care in Thailand, so as to best take care or your health as an expat and navigate the local healthcare system.

Here are a few questions to start with:

What preventive care plans and measures are available in Thailand?

Can expats easily access preventive healthcare services?

Does health insurance cover preventive care in Thailand or is there any other scheme available? Any tips to choose the right plan?

How to get informed about preventive care plans or events: any useful website, hotline, or media that you’ve found helpful?

What is the local attitude towards preventive care and how did you adjust to it?

Share your experiences and tips to help fellow expats.

Thank you for your contribution.

Most hospitals offer (bi)annual check up programs. None of them are covered by Thai health insurances or social security. These check-ups are usually focused on the elderly and affordable especially around mother- or father day. Foreign insurance companies I have no clear idea if they pay or not.

I think ALL insurances should because fixing a medical issue when it has progressed is so.much more expensive then the health check....and subsequent treatment in early stages....

But hey bottom line has always been more important than deaths

The only way to find them is on websites of the hospitals or in the.hospital itself conveniently located in the elevator....but ask the nurse as well when you visit your doctor

Mostly the signs will be in local language apart from the few 6 star hospitals in Bangkok catering to the well insured and wealthy  foreigner expats or tourists.

Listen to your body and with any small complaint/symptom talk to your doctor, clinic and search the internet. Do not wait and think...

The thing I do for the wife and myself is an annual check up for all vital signs and blood- and urine work. Including breast and prostate cancer... . Costs around 10.000 thb pp. Mother and father day cheaper but busy

I would have never done it for myself but my wife initiated it...and I hqve to agree not a bad idea.

Hello Martin

I am about to retire in Thailand asking for non OA visa. Which Health Insurance do you recommend ? Thai ? International ?

Thanks for the help

Both will offer, local are usually cheaper but acceptance depends on pre-existing issues etc.

Forum has a dedicated insurance section, have a look around there and google

Hello !

Some local immigration offices in Thailand may require insurance to be purchased through the official website of authorized companies only. You should check that point with the Consulate of your home country in advance.

@Goodmorningthailand

I assume the OP is asking about non O/A from outside Thaiand, little to do with immi office in Thailand.  Not a set requirement yet inside Thailand for extension or changes

If you reread my message carefully, I specified "consulate" and "Immigration".

The first for the visa outside Thailand obviously, the second for the visa in Thailand, which is feasible in some offices, including the one I depend on.

At this same office, the officers only accept health insurance listed on the official website.

Information a little old, since it is from September 27, 2024. :-)

Not being concerned  myself by this visa, I am only transmitting the information given to me, for all useful purposes).
