Thank you for reading my message.  I am a US citizen, and my sole income is about 1100 us dollars a month.  I did just come into a small inheritance, I won't say how much.

I am considering moving to Albania, with the goal of maintaining my general standard of living, but having at least double the square footage to live in....say, 900 square foot apartment, with off street parking for a moped.

There is a thread on here discussing the issue of opening a bank account.  The tone of that conversation seemed very nasty.   Can one become a resident without first having an Albanian bank account?

I'm age 60, and live in a tiny 325 square foot apartment, with a generous rent subsidy from the District of Columbia.  I pay around 300 dollars a month toward the rent.  I have US Medicaid and Medicare, but no other insurance.  I have a cat.  Unfortunately, I have a felony conviction from around 1992, not a violent crime; would that alone prohibit me from living in Albania?

I would not want to give up my US citizenship because I would lose my sole source of income Social Security.   Is anyone on this forum living in Albania more or less indefinitely, but still able to collect Social Security?

I don't need anything especially fancy, but totally reliable high speed internet would be a must, and at a reasonable rate, say no more than 100 US dollars a month.  I'd like to purchase and operate a moped while living in Albania....any special obstacles or costs involved in doing that?  I'd want to live near a relatively good and reasonably priced source of groceries.

Are there particular real estate companies that specialize in renting to Americans?

I'd prefer not to live close to noise such as nightclub, restaurant, factory.  Would be nice to live in a neighborhood with lots of other Americans, or at least British.

Ultimately, the ideal would be to find two or three other Americans, pool our money, and buy a small apartment building.  Live in it, and rent out the extra apartments or make it a hotel.
