Is Panama a safe place for a single 60 yo woman to retire to?

I am a 60 yo American woman. My husband died very unexpectedly 6 months ago. I no longer want to stay in this country and am looking for someplace warm to retire to. Is Panama a safe place for a single 60 yo woman to retire to? If so, any particular locations?

Choose a safe area in Panama for your stay. Cerro Punta, Volcan and Boquete area excellent options for retirees, offering a peaceful environment. You might consider shared accommodations or a gated community for added security. Coronado is another great choice to explore.

Hello.

Yes, it is. BUT (there's always a but) depends on the region.

If you like the city: Panama City, of course but do not go to places like Chepo, San Miguelito, Villa Zaita, for example.  This is the most expensive option since location costs.

If you like to be close to the city? La Chorrera. It is rapidly growing and there are many clustered neighborhoods that provide a little more security than a regular home.  If you don't move into a cluster, be sure to move close to other expats as an alone expat, in her 60's would call some undesired attention of thieves.

If you like comfort and beach? Chame/Coronado

If you like highlands and be close to the beach? Sorá

If you like hot beach? Pedasí

If you like highlands and cool climate? Boquete/Volcán

If you like crazy beach? Isla Colón.

All these locations have expat communities and looking on instagram or google you might find some local expats groups that might help you with information on how to migrate.

Like any country some places are safe and some are not. However I would recommend Volcan which is located in Chiriqui near the border with Costa Rica. I have lived in Volcan for the past 25 years. No one has ever assaulted me. I am 83 years old. I go anywhere in the area I please without worrying about my safety. To David, to the border, to the beach, etc.
